City Church

Tallahasee, FL

Long-term project design is the starting point of bringing vision to life. Stephen Covey reminds us that highly effective people and teams begin with the end in mind. City Church in Tallahassee, Florida, is growing. Fast. They embarked on a campus expansion that would remodel existing buildings while adding a new worship space. The vision was big, but the growth exceeded expectations, as did the planned renovation and construction. The church decided to increase the scope and size of the new construction mid-project. With invested capital already committed, the multi-year project was extended after the addition.

Avenue recognized the need and devised a plan to help the church meet its current needs while it waits for its campus to be ready. The project was always designed to be a phased approach, starting with the new larger worship space and then renovating the existing worship and classroom spaces. Avenue approached City Church with the idea of allowing solutions in renovated spaces to be installed in current spaces so that the church could take advantage of the resources and increase its return on investment.

Avenue Systems did a deep dive into the current worship space and discovered that significant improvements could be made without increasing the project's cost. The equipment and solutions had been purchased upfront to lock in costs in the ever-increasing inflation landscape. These solutions would have been installed in the renovated spaces several phases down the timeline.

Understanding the church's current resources and analyzing its current workflows allowed the Avenue Systems team to use Owner-Furnished resources in addition to strategic already-allocated equipment to augment new lighting positions, existing projection screens with new projectors, and a new DSP that brought new life to an aged line-array PA. The results were significant, yet all within the project's current budget.

This early deployment also offered strategic conversations between the trades and the Church that changed the future design. Several logistics and design concerns were discovered with the early deployment, allowing for conversations to create solutions that would have cost additional funds later in the project. This early collaboration allowed construction materials to be removed from the project, a new design of MEP infrastructure, and a relocation of the current video control space ahead of the forecasted timeline, all of which lowered the project's total cost.

Strategic partnerships and lasting relationships are Avenue Systems' core values. City Church's trust in Avenue Systems allows for innovation and real-time decisions that can create value far beyond the measure of equipment.

“Before Avenue began deployment, we knew we desperately needed upgrades. We didn't know we needed the amazing work that Avenue would do. Not only did they make sure our new equipment was installed properly and functioning as we needed it to, but they also went above and beyond to make sure that we could still host mid-week services without having the environment ruined.” - Josh Schmidt
